Digital Desk: On Monday, the Assam government unveiled a new tourist policy in order to promote responsible tourism and boost the state's business community.
As stated in a statement, the policy's mission is "to create a policy framework and strategic roadmap in collaboration with central ministries, various state government departments, local communities, and tourism stakeholders to improve the tourism sector in Assam, support the private sector engaged in tourism in the state, and strengthen tourism support segments and sub-sectors."
The strategy, which was developed following long discussions with the World Bank, incorporates the perspectives of stakeholders and industry experts.
The new tourist policy was announced on the sidelines of the 'Assam Tourism Road Show 2022,' organized by the Assam Department of Tourism.
"Our goal with this new strategy is to allow the rest of the world to see it through the eyes of the attraction." The presence of clean water, forests, mountains, and rivers offers the state with endless tourism opportunities. The same purpose is reflected in the new tourist policy. Assam is likely to amaze visitors with what it has to offer at every turn. "We have unique packages for investors," explained state tourism minister Jayanta Malla Baruah.
According to Maninder Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Tourism, Assam government, the policy's main guiding idea is to encourage sustainability and foster responsible tourism in order to make Assam a sustainable and responsible tourism destination.
"The goal is to promote sustainability by limiting tourism's negative consequences on social, environmental, and economic sectors while assuring positive effects," Singh stated.
With the goal of employing local youth in sight, the Department of Tourism will facilitate on-the-job training provided by companies for local employees in hotels and resorts.
According to the statement, these programmes will strive to progress women into management and leadership positions in their firms, as well as encourage employers to provide childcare support and safe transportation for female workers, particularly those working at night.
Particular efforts will be made to train women for male-dominated positions such as guides, cooks, waiters, and drivers, and firms that encourage women in these areas will be recognised.
