Assam: Kamprup (M) district administration issues advisory amid heavy rain

The IMD has issued an orange notice for Arunachal Pradesh until June 17, in addition to the red alert for Assam and Meghalaya for Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Digital Desk: In view of the incessant rainfall in the
city, Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration issued an urgent advisory on
Monday for the people. The administration asked the people not to go out unless
    necessary.

    The advisory
read, "In view of incessant rain, citizens are advised not to venture out unless
    absolutely
essential. If your residence is prone to
water logging or landslides, please consider shifting to a safer
    location."

    Moreover, the
district administration further issued helpline numbers for any emergency
    situation.

    The warning
comes after various areas of Guwahati became flooded as a result of continuous
heavy rain that began on Monday night.

Meanwhile, Special DGP taking the Twitter wrote, “HEAVY
    RAINFALL WARNING FOR GUWAHATI for June 14th, 15th & 16th 2022. Please
restrict road journey to essential only during these three days.”

    Following the
devastation caused by torrential rains in the city, at least four people were
buried alive in a major landslide in Guwahati's Nizarapar district near
    Boragaon on Tuesday.

    Since the
morning of June 14, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire and
Emergency Services (F&ES), and police have been conducting nonstop rescue
efforts at the scene of the disaster.

    In addition to
Boragaon, landslides have occurred in Guwahati's Bamunimaidam, Basistha, and
Nabagraha neighbourhoods. So far, no casualties or injuries have been reported
    from these places.

    Since the
evening of June 13, torrential rainfall in Guwahati, along with violent
thunderstorms, has created landslides and generated floods in various parts of
    the city.

    Meanwhile, the
India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red signal for Assam and
Meghalaya on Monday, predicting that heavy rain will continue to fall in the
    northeastern area till June 17.

    Several
locations in Assam and Meghalaya, for example, are already witnessing
continuous rains of 100 mm, 250 mm, or even 300 mm.

    The IMD has
issued an orange notice for Arunachal Pradesh until June 17, in addition to the
red alert for Assam and Meghalaya for Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

    "Due to
strong lower-level southerly/southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to
Northeast India during June 13 to 17, moisture incursion is highly likely to
continue," IMD senior scientist Sanjay O'Neill Shaw said.

    People were
significantly impacted as a result of it; some businesses were forced to close,
people were trapped in traffic for lengthy periods of time in some locations,
and other people's livelihoods were compromised.
