Assam to issue minority certificates to six religious communities

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma decided on a proposal forwarded by the Assam Minorities Development Board to the state government.

Digital Desk: The Assam government declared on Sunday that minorities in the state would be granted minority certification.

According to Cabinet Minister Keshab Mahanta, the government has agreed to grant certificates to all of Assam's minority religious communities.

Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Parsis, Buddhists, and Jains are among the communities that will get the minority certificate.

Notably, the Assam Minorities Development Board can receive applications from the communities.

According to Keshab Mahanta, the Assam Minorities Development Board proposed the certification, and this board will carry out all of the necessary procedures.

On the other hand, the minister did not specify how to apply for certification or whether there would be any other requirements.

It was also unclear whether the certification would be useful in seeking jobs or other government-related benefits.
