Digital Desk: Following heavy rains on Monday, massive landslides struck Guwahati's Boragaon, killing at least four people.
According to reports, mudslides from the hills destroyed a house in Boragaon. Since the morning of June 14, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), and police have been conducting continuous rescue operations at the scene of the incident.
Aside from Boragaon, landslides have occurred in Guwahati neighborhoods such as Bamunimaidam, Basistha, and Nabagraha.
However, no casualties or injuries have been reported from these areas thus far. Notably, heavy rainfall in Guwahati, combined with heavy thunderstorms, has caused landslides and triggered floods in many parts of the city since the evening of June 13.
Meanwhile, the Tahijuwari area, about 75 kilometers from Haflong on the Haflong-Lanka road, has been hit not only by landslides but also by unprecedented floods.
Residents of Thaijuwari, Thaijuwari market, Mojowari, Jonsorhadi, and other nearby areas were informed that the River Diyung was streaming and that a heavy flood was possible in Thaijuwari.
As a result, they prepared, but they never imagined that the flood would be so devastating. The bridge over Lailengdisa was inundated entirely, and flood waters rose to 30 feet, forcing the river to change course.
The mighty River Diyung, which flows near Thaijuwari, took an unusual form and flooded a vast agricultural area, causing heavy loss to the people of Thaijuwari, where at least 105 houses were flooded.
