BJP nominates former Tripura CM Biplab Deb for Rajya Sabha bypolls

Deb thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP National Chairman JP Nadda, and Home Minister Amit Shah on Twitter for the nomination.

Digital Desk: Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has been nominated by the BJP to run in the state's sole by-election for the Rajya Sabha.

On September 22, a by-election for the Tripura Rajya Sabha seat will take place. The seat fell vacant after Dr Manik Saha resigned in July this year following his appointment as Chief Minister of Tripura.

Deb thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP National Chairman JP Nadda, and Home Minister Amit Shah on Twitter for the nomination.

He added, "I am dedicated to working for the growth and welfare of Tripura and its people.

Bhanulal Saha, a former finance minister and MLA from Tripura, has been selected by the Left Front as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha byelection.

Biplab Deb has undergone a substantial change in the BJP, receiving an organisational position and being handed responsibility for party business in Haryana.

Tripura's chief minister relinquished his position earlier this year in May, and Manik Saha took his place. "We need to keep the BJP in power for long in Tripura," Deb had said after his resignation.
