Digital Desk: Titabar, Jorhat, witnessed a flurry of political activity as the Chief Minister led an energetic election campaign after sunset. The BJP's stronghold strengthened as over 300 individuals formally joined the party during a grand ceremony at Thengal Bhawan in Titabar.

Attended by state cabinet ministers Piyush Hazarika and Ajanta Neog, along with Mariani MLAs Rupjyoti Kurmi, Pallab Lochan Das, and Sushanta Borgohain, the Chief Minister rallied supporters.

Among the new members were numerous tea garden voters and members from the Tea Mazdoor Sangh, signalling a significant development.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s presence in the constituency promoting Topon Gogoi is significant in strengthening the support of people in the constituency. For the last two Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won the Jorhat constituency with a respectful margin. In 2014, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa got 48.99 votes and 51.35 votes from Topon Kumar Gogoi. However, the Congress secured 38.00 per cent and 43.54 per cent in 2014 and 2019, respectively.

Gaurav Gogoi’s participation from Jorhat sparked debate among the aspiring candidates from Jorhat. The immediate effect of his announcement as the candidate for the constituency led to the resignation of APCC General Secretary Suruj Dihingia. Suruj was expecting his candidature from the constituency. However, the BJP's proactive campaigning in the constituency signalled a different picture.
