Chinese Apples worth more than Rs 12 Lakh seized in Guwahati
In a major breakthrough by the Customs department of Guwahati, a total of 350 cartons, weighing 6300 kilograms carrying Chinese apples have been seized by Customs with its total market value worth Rs 12,60,000.
Indian market is flooded with Chinese items. Now Chinese apples are making great entry through secret agents across the state of Assam.
One can see Chinese apples flooding the markets across the state which is a cause of worry for the customs.
As per sources, the apples have been brought from Imphal by buses but nobody has come forward to lay claim on the seized cartons of Chinese apples. The customs duty on these apples is estimated to be around Rs 8 lakhs. Currently the Customs and Assam police are investigating the case.
The Fuji apples is widely produced in the Chinese province of Shaanxi, to the central Henan, and Shandong on the east coast of China. Apple orchards in Gansu and Shaanxi are China’s largest apple producing regions.
