Cyclone Sitrang: Meghalaya on high alert, Schools announced to shut down in four districts
In Bangladesh, the administration has instructed that all educational institutions remain closed on Tuesday due to the storm.

Digital Desk: Meghalaya's disaster management authorities have been placed on high alert as Cyclone Sitrang is expected to deliver severe rain to various parts of the state, officials warned on Sunday.

In at least four districts bordering Bangladesh, the administration instructed that all educational institutions be closed on Tuesday due to the storm.

East and West Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, and South West Khasi Hills are the districts.

Other districts have been told to keep all field officers awake at all times, monitor the situation, and report in the event of an emergency, according to authorities.

On Tuesday, the IMD predicts "usually gloomy skies with steady rain" in various regions of Meghalaya.

According to a senior official of the State disaster management administration, the National Highway Authority of India has been asked to maintain its staff and machinery ready for any emergency demand in any region of the State.

The whole northeastern state saw light to moderate rains on Monday, producing minor power outages.

The cyclone is expected to strike the Bangladesh coast between Tinkona island and Sandwip near Barisal early Tuesday, according to IMD.
