Dima Hasao: Restoration Works in Progress, DC & Other Officials Inspect Sites

    Digital
Desk: Since the roads in Dima Hasao were damaged by the disastrous floods
and landslides, the concerned departments are now working to restore the
district's damaged roadways. The district administration has enlisted the help
of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the state Public Works
Department (PWD) to repair the damaged roadways.

The floods in the hill district have
caused widespread devastation, with road connectivity being severely harmed. In
the devastating flood, the new Haflong railway station was completely destroyed.

    With the improved weather,
rehabilitation work has begun in earnest, and excavators have been stationed in
specific regions to dismantle landslide-caused roadblocks.

    Officials from the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration, the state Department of Transportation, and the
district administration visited the affected areas on Monday to inspect the
ongoing repair efforts. Nazreen Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner, also paid a visit
to the places where restoration work is being done.

Last month's heavy rains resulted in
massive flooding and landslides in the hill district, displacing over 500
families and killing three people, one of whom was a kid.

    The district administration officials
visited the affected districts and evaluated the damaged roadways, according to
Nazreen Ahmed, the Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao district.

"On the National Highway 54, there are two large breaches. The NHAI
assured us that the damaged roads will be repaired in a timely manner. We are
hopeful that it would be restored as soon as possible "Nazreen Ahmed
    expressed her thoughts.

    Officials from the district
administration have been visiting the damaged locations on a regular basis and
keeping a close eye on the restoration process.

Earlier this month, an Inter-Ministerial Central delegation visited the
    district to assess the situation.

Assam's government has also given an
    R. 50 crore emergency package for the restoration effort.

A total of Rs. 30 crore would be granted as part of this package
for the immediate rehabilitation of important roadways. The state government,
on the other hand, will offer Rs. 2 lakh to each of 590 households to help them
rebuild their damaged homes. A total of Rs. 11.80 crore has been set aside for
this purpose. SDRF would contribute Rs. 23 crore and SOPD will contribute Rs.
27 crore to the overall rehabilitation package.
