Dima Hasao's infrastructure developed over the last 10 years is destroyed: Assam's CM

Dima Hasao suffered the most from the state's flooding wave this year. Internet connectivity has been disrupted since May.

Digital Desk: Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Dima Hasao, which was badly affected by the floods. He said that natural disasters have mostly destroyed the infrastructure in the hill district built over the past five to ten years.

He assured locals that both the Centre and the state government would assist in redeveloping the infrastructure and establishing alternative communication links to many parts of the district that were cut off by landslides.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, "We have observed that roads are severely affected. It seems that reconstruction will be difficult in many areas. The infrastructure for water supply, irrigation, power, and bridges has been severely damaged. "Almost all the development work in the area over the last five to ten years has been destroyed. "

According to an official, damaged road links will be repaired in the coming weeks. Train service between Dima Hasao in the state and Barak Valley in neighboring Tripura, Mizoram, and Manipur will resume in July. The authorities also have to restore the mobile phone network.

The Chief Minister announced that the state government would provide one-time support to the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council. North Cachar Hills was once known as Dima Hasao.

CM Himanta said, "With this amount, the council can begin clearing debris from roads and constructing small alternative roads to restore connectivity."

He mentioned that efforts to air-drop food, fuel, and other essential commodities would continue in the district.

A central team will visit Haflong, the district headquarters, on May 27 to assess the damage and submit a report to both the federal and state governments about the steps taken to repair and reconstruct.

CM Himanta Sarma stated that he would partner with the prime Minister to rebuild Dima Hasao's infrastructure. He met with the Prime Minister, central government ministers, and authorities earlier.

The Chief Minister arrived in Haflong earlier today and said that he had inspected the landslide-affected regions, including the road in Sarkari Bagan, badly damaged by floods.

Sarma visited inmates at the temporary relief camps at Lower Haflong High School, LP School.

"I inspected medical and other facilities." DC (deputy commissary) was asked to care for their needs and help them with their homes. He wrote that there are 149 prisoners in total on the microblogging website.

The Chief Minister also met with three families who lost their loved ones in natural disasters. He assured them that the state government was there for them and added that ex gratia had been given to the families.

He also met up with the district administration to assess the extent of the damage from landslides.

"Stressed to the importance of full-scale transportation being resumed soon as possible." He also said that he stressed the importance of repairing damaged roads.

Floods have impacted over 6,50,400 people across the districts of Barpeta and Cachar, Darrang, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Dima Hasao, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, and Hojai, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karbi Anglong West, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur, and Udalguri districts.
