    Dr L Murugan, two-day visit to Meghalaya, attends developmental projects

    The Modi-led government has implemented several fisheries-related programmes for the last eight years.


    Digital Desk: Dr L Murugan, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy, who is on a two-day visit to Meghalaya, engaged with fish farmers and beneficiaries of various government initiatives.


    The Minister of state visited a fish farm in Umeit village, Ri Bhoi district, where he urged others to start fish farming and create jobs for others. Minister Murugan also visited Umiam Lake, where fish seeds are circulated.


    Later, visited the Meghalaya State Fisheries Research and Training Institute in Mawpun Kshaid, Ri Bhoi district; the Minister interacted with fish farmers undergoing fish farming training.


    According to the Minister, the Union Government has introduced several fisheries-related programmes in the last eight years. 


    He discussed the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), a five-year plan to bring about the Blue Revolution through sustainable and responsible development of the fisheries sector, with a record-breaking investment of Rs. 20,050 crore in all states and union territories from 2020-21 to 2024-25. 


    He went on to say that the Union Government has put a lot of money into fisheries infrastructure development and urged fish producers to take advantage of the chances provided by the government.
