Digital Desk: A 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck Assam around 12:54 am on 24th January, causing panic among residents but no immediate reports of casualties or damage. The tremors were felt in several parts of the north-eastern region shortly after midnight, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). Despite the scare, officials confirmed there were no injuries or damage to property.

The earthquake's epicenter was located in Myanmar, at a depth of 106 km below the Earth's surface. The tremors were felt across various northeastern states, raising concerns among locals. This follows a series of seismic activities in the region, including two earthquakes that hit Manipur on Wednesday night. A 4.3-magnitude quake struck Pherzawl district near the Assam and Mizoram borders, followed by a second 3.3-magnitude quake in Churachandpur district near Mizoram and Myanmar.

Disaster management authorities confirmed there were no casualties or damage from these earthquakes either. Throughout January, the northeastern states have experienced a series of tremors, with Manipur reporting six earthquakes, ranging from magnitudes of 3.1 to 3.8, in various districts. Meghalaya also experienced a 4.1-magnitude quake in the South West Khasi Hills on January 21.

These recent tremors highlight the ongoing seismic activity in the region, though no significant damage has been reported so far.
