EC of India calls upon the RUPPs to submit financial reports by June 24

State's Chief Electoral officer Nitin Khade makes a call demanding the RUPPs in Assam to report about their financial accounts.

Digital Desk: The Indian Election Commission has requested that Registered Unrecognised Political Parties (RUPPs) file their financial accounts by June 24 to "avoid consequential action."

According to the EC's decision, all seven RUPPs in Assam that ran in the state assembly elections last year have yet to submit election expense statements. 

As per the rules, political parties must file an election expense statement within 75 days of the general assembly election's conclusion.

According to the state's chief electoral officer Nitin Khade, Several Registered Unrecognised Political Parties in Assam have failed to comply with the provisions of Section-29C of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

They also missed other extant provisions of the legal and regulatory regime governing RUPPs, as well as the directions of the Election Commission of India, such as submitting their contribution reports, audited annual accounts with auditor report, and election expenditure statements in case of elections, Khade added to his statement.

Only three political parties have submitted contribution reports for the year 2017-18. following this, one political party has produced an annual audited account for 2019-20, and one political party has submitted election expenditure accounts for the Lok Sabha Election, according to Khade.

However, the RUPPs have also requested that their office-bearer information be updated, including approved signatories for financial transactions, official address changes, and a permanent account number.

In his remark, Khade stated that RUPPs could submit compliance reports and other information by email (ceo assam@eci.gov.in) or in person at the CEO Assam's office.
