Government to reduce AFSPA areas in these three Northeastern states; details here

The AFSPA gives security forces the authority to conduct operations anywhere and arrest anyone without a warrant.

Digital Desk: Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Thursday that the Centre has decided to reduce the disturbed areas under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the states of Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur.

The Armed Forces Special Powers Act gives security forces the authority to conduct operations anywhere and arrest anyone without a warrant. It also provides security forces with some immunity in the event of a failed operation.

“In a significant step, GoI under the decisive leadership of PM Shri @NarendraModi Ji has decided to reduce disturbed areas under Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the states of Nagaland, Assam and Manipur after decades,” Shah said in a tweet.
