    In the shocking video, a person can be seen beating the Hornbill with a stick and stamping it on the bird's neck. 


    Digital Desk: In a horrific video surfacing on the internet, villagers in Nagaland's Wokha district can be seen torturing a Great Indian Hornbill to death. Reportedly, Nagaland police arrested three persons for torturing and killing the bird under the Wildlife and Arms Act. The video of the bird's gruesome death has stunned the internet and sparked widespread outrage. Notably, several bird and animal species have witnessed population declines due to increased urbanization and climate change, and the Great Indian Hornbill is also an endangered species. 


    In the shocking video, a person can be seen beating the Hornbill with a stick and stamping it on the bird's neck. The video was posted on Instagram by the username @dcexpeditions, with the caption, "What a horrific video. Such a gorgeous bird, endangered and Wildlife Protection Act Schedule 1 species, being tortured and beaten to death!!!. This is the state which celebrates Hornbill Festival."


    The video has startled and shocked the internet, as well as sparked outrage from animal activist groups and netizens alike. The wildlife division team is conducting further investigations, and the weapon used and parts of the hornbill have been seized. Since 2018, the Great Indian Hornbill has been considered vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.


    As the video was widely disseminated, there was widespread outrage on social media. "Need strictest of the action against the culprits," wrote one user. "This is horrifying... I thought Nagaland has become better at treating birds... But seems earlier barbaric activities still going on." another one wrote.
