    High-Level French Experts Visit Dibrugarh To Find Solutions For Flood

    Digital Desk: A team of high-level French experts arrived in Dibrugarh to find solutions for the persistent flooding and water logging during the monsoon in the city. The French delegation began the three-day evaluation on Thursday to find potential solutions for the issue.


    The French Embassy consists of five members and it is led by Benoit Gauthier, minister counsellor for economic and financial affairs at the French Embassy. The delegation includes sustainable development experts Marion Velut and Udit Malik of the French Embassy, and urban planning specialists Regis Berlier and Zofia Mlocek from Atelier LD Paris. 


    The team began their assessment with a briefing by local authorities. The authorities provided an overview of the existing flood management endeavours in Dibrugarh. The French experts held stakeholder meetings with representatives from the District Administration, Water Resources Department and Country Planning, and PWD Roads at the district commissioner's office.


    The team assessed the city's flood history and current strategies to prevent the city from flooding. District Commissioner Bikram Kairi and other senior government officials were present at the meeting.


    Following the meeting, they conducted field visits to the Dibrugarh Town Protection (DTP) dyke and the Brahmaputra riverfront. 


    The French team also examined different flood-prone areas and interacted with the locals to understand their challenges during the water logging situation in the city. As part of their assessment, they will also visit some of the tea plantation sites.
