Madhavdev was a prominent Ekasara Ma Dharma preceptor noted for devotion to his Guru, Srimanta Sankardeva and his creative brilliance.

Digital Desk: Today is the birth anniversary of the great man Sri Sri Madhavdev; he was also one of Assam's well-known Vaishnava Saints. Madhavdev was a notable Ekasara Ma Dharma preceptor known for his creative brilliance and commitment to his Guru, Srimanta Sankardeva.

Madhavdev was born in 1489 in the small village of Assam named Leteku Pukhuri, situated at Narayanpur town of Lakhimpur District.

Mahapurush recieved his early education in Lakhimpur's Narayanpur town and continued his schooling in Banduka ( Rangpur district of modern-day Bangladesh). He studied Purans, Tantra, Tarka-Sashtra and other Shaktism literature.

Gobindagiri Bhuyan and Manorama Gobindagiri are parents of Madhavdev.

Madhavdev was a saint-poet and author who wrote Nam- Ghoxa and Bhakti Ratnavali; these were the two of Assam's most famous spiritual writings. His other notable work includes Naam Maalikaa and Guru bhatima; he also penned down 191 borgeets and various one-act plays known as 'Jhumuras.'

Madhavdev Tithi honours Mahapurush as one of Assam's most prominent Vaishnava saints.

One of the most fundamental beliefs of Madhavdev was that prevention is better than treatment and that one should avoid becoming involved in transient pleasure, and that "one should always strive for the absolute truth."

Madhavdev was chosen as a successor above the two sons of Sri Sri Sankardeva to lead the Vaishnavism movement forward, and Madhavdev stood on his guru's faith by continuing his guru's heritage and founding several satras

Assam's soul song (Borgeet) was written by both guru and student Sankardev and Madhavdev. "Ankia Nat" and "Jumura" are two of the earliest Indian cultural dramas.

Saint Madhavdev also founded the renowned "Dekhiakhowa Bornamghor" in the Jorhat district of Assam in 1528, and an earthen lamp was torched. Since then, it has constantly been burning, and it is a serious challenge for the world's longest continually lit lamp.

Mahapurush Madhavdev died in 1596 at Bhela Satra in Koch Behar.

The Tithi of Madhavdev is declared a regional public holiday in Assam.
