The journey from a rented house to a six-story building of BJP's largest party office in NE
The BJP claimed that party members' donations helped to build the office.

Digital Desk: Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, and JP Nadda, the BJP's national president, launched the saffron party's largest office in the northeast on Saturday, giving state BJP members access to the brand-new, "state of the art," office.

The six-story building with a guest house and a contemporary media centre will house the party's regional headquarters and cover an area of 60,000 square feet. It cost about Rs 25 crore to build and can accommodate about 5000 people. A 350-seat theatre and five meeting rooms are also available at the office.

The BJP claimed that party members' donations helped to build the office.

But for BJP members in the state, the party's journey from a modest rental home in the city's Uzan Bazar neighbourhood to this contemporary building was nothing short of a dream realized.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, praised the BJP party members for their dedication during the official opening ceremony.

The voyage began, according to him, when the BJP was founded in Bombay (now Mumbai) on April 6, 1980, and two prominent Assamese BJP officials, Kabindra Purkayastha and Lakheswar Gohain were charged with pushing party causes in the state.

The Saffron Party established its first district committee office in Cachar under the direction of Purkayastha. The party's inaugural convention was conducted in Jorhat in 1981, and Colonel Uma Sarma was chosen to serve as the state party president at that convention.

The party later relocated its office to another rented property in the Rajgarh area of the city in 1999, when former MP Rajen Gohain served as the state party's president. Later, in 2004, the office was moved in opposition to the Rajdhani Nursery section of Zoo road.

"The notion of having a permanent office of the party was conceived and efforts started only later, during the administrations of P. Chandrashekhar and the state's then-president, Ranjeet Dutta. The party had its first permanent office in the Hengrabari district of the city later in 2012. Ten years later, we finally have the state-of-the-art office, and I would want to congratulate everyone and offer my gratitude to those whose efforts made the dream possible," CM continued.

Amit Shah, the then-national president of the BJP, dedicated the new office in February 2019.

"It was a big plan, and I was wondering how we were going to pull it off." However, thanks to the love and hard work of our employees, the BJP has now successfully opened its largest office in the region in Guwahati. "This office is even better than our office in Delhi," Shah said during the opening ceremony.
