    people and washed away a number of houses and vehicles, officials said on

    color:#2E2E2E">The state was hit by as many as seven landslides in the last 24
    hours, they said.

    color:#2E2E2E">Officials of the state disaster management authority said two
    people died in a landslide in Mawlat village in East Khasi Hills district,
    Rohit Kshiar (14) and Dilibon Tangsang (35). Another landslide in Umblai
    village swept away two houses and two shops. A vehicle was washed away from the
    Thangbnai-Mawlyngot road. The road was being cleared, he said.

    injured one person. During a landslide near Wahumkhrah River in Wahingdoh, part
    of the road was eroded.

    NH 40 (Shillong-Dawki Road) in Mawsynram Block and Mawphlang
    Balat Road were affected by landslides.

    time when they found themselves stranded. Those affected were given foodgrain,
    blankets, and other essentials by officials.
