With just forty eight hours remaining for the announcement of the list of Indian citizens living in Assam, the leave and training of officers in Assam Police have been cancelled upto August 15.
The Chief Secretary of Assam, TY Das has issued an order on Friday stating that in view of the publication of draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) on July 30 and forthcoming Independence Day, the leave and training of all officers of the IAS, ACS, IPS, APS, ALRS, all police officers and other ranks of police, other officers and staff of District establishments and SPs offices has been cancelled upto August 15.
Unless it is a case of extreme personal or medical emergency, all kinds of leave applications will be put on hold till the publication of the complete draft NRC, as per reports.
On the other hand, Assam Police personnel are holding meetings with the village elders, student leaders, and eminent personalities of the community and also visiting the markets and border haats to sensitize the public about the NRC update exercise and ill effects of post fake messages on the social media platforms.
The actual strength of the Assam Police at present is 52,183 against the sanctioned strength of 64,988 and on the other hand, the totl strength of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in the Assam Police at present is 109 compared to the sanctioned strength of 135, as per a media report.
