Locals in Goalpara destroy a Madrasa in protest at Extremist Activity on its premises
Following the arrest of madrasa priest Jalaluddin Sheikh, it was discovered that the madrasa grounds were being used for the anti-national activity.

Digital Desk: According to authorities, a madrasa and a home adjacent to it in Assam's Goalpara district were demolished on Tuesday in protest of the property being used for terrorist activity.

According to the police, the madrasa in Pakhiura Char under Matia police station and the adjacent apartment were reportedly utilized for terrorist operations by two Bangladeshi nationals presently on the run.

The use of the madrasa premises for anti-national activity was revealed following the arrest of Jalaluddin Sheikh, a madrasa priest.

Sheikh allegedly hired the two as teachers at the Darogar Alga Pakhiura Char Madrassa and was recently detained for his suspected connections with them, according to a police officer.

The madrasa is the fourth to be demolished in the state's northeastern region.

The absconding Bangladeshis, members of Al Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS)/Ansarul Bangla Team (ABT), were identified as Aminul Islam alias Usman alias Mehdy Hasan and Jahangir Alom, he claimed.

The two have taught in the madrasa between 2020 and 22.

The relevant authorities demolished three more madrasas in the Morigaon, Barpeta, and Bongaigaon districts.
