Digital Desk: Assam’s tableau will not feature in the prestigious Republic Day parade in New Delhi for the second consecutive year. Due to the central government’s rotation policy for states, Assam Tableau will miss this year's participation in the parade. The policy aims to ensure equal opportunities for all the states to showcase their tableaux after an interval.
Even though this might disappoint many, the state’s rich cultural heritage will receive a platform at the Republic Day exhibition at Red Fort, to be held from January 26 to January 31, 2025.
This year the Assam tableau’s theme is ‘Swarnim Bharat', which celebrates the state’s diverse culture and natural beauty. Primary to its design is the Xorai, a traditional Assamese artifact crafted from bell metal, symbolizing honor and respect. This prominent object has its roots in the
artisan hubs of Hajo and Sarthebari.
The tableau also focuses on two UNESCO World Heritage Sites- the Kaziranga National Park and the Charaideo Moidam. Kaziranga which is famous for its one-horned Rhinoceroses is evidence of the state’s environmental diversity and conservation efforts. Simultaneously, the Charaideo Moidam known as the royal burial mounds of the Ahom Dynasty reflects Assam’s historical depth and cultural richness.
However, Assam’s Tableau is set to return to the Republic Day parade in 2026 and its exhibition at Red Fort.
