He singled out opposition figures, including Akhil Gogoi and Lurinjyoti Gogoi
Digital Desk: Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, directed sharp criticism towards the opposition, particularly the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), regarding their stance on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Sarma condemned what he deemed as the dissemination of misinformation about the CAA and pledged to hold those responsible accountable for their statements.
He singled out opposition figures, including Akhil Gogoi and Lurinjyoti Gogoi, demanding apologies for their alleged role in spreading falsehoods about the CAA. Sarma connected the deaths of five individuals during protests to what he labelled as "instigating statements" and misinformation surrounding the controversial act.
Sarma emphasised the impact of false narratives, attributing street demonstrations to the spread of misinformation about the CAA. In a separate instance, Sarma questioned the popularity of Rahul Gandhi compared to Narendra Modi, asserting that even schoolchildren would prefer Modi as the country's leader. This statement was made during an interaction with reporters in Tengakhat.
He previously said, "After so many days of applying for citizenship being rolled out, only one application from Barak Valley has been received.” He further said, “But they (protestors) said people will come to the state in trucks," Sarma said while campaigning for the BJP in Sonari, Sibsagar district.”
