Digital Desk: Yesterday, a silent protest by reporters took place in front of Panbazar Police Station after a journalists Dilwar Hussain Mozumdar was arrested for the second time.
Over a hundred senior and junior journalists came together to protest outside Panbazar Police Station from evening until 1 AM, wearing black badges.
Journalist Dilwar Hussain Mozumder was arrested by Panbazar Police Station on Tuesday, 25th March , after attempting to question Dambaru Saikia, Managing Director of Apex Bank.
Police Raid on Mazumdar’s Residence
Dilwar Hussain Mazumdar was transferred from Guwahati Central Jail to Panbazar Police Station, yesterday at 8:14 PM. Later, Panbazar police took him to his house in Pragjyotish Housing Complex Ghoramara for conducting a raid at his Guwahati residence.
Today at the wee hours, the Guwahati police raided the same house once more while holding multiple documents during their procedure. During the search operation, police seized several documents from Mozumder's house and took them to Panbazar Police Station. However, they returned to the same house for another search operation.
Mazumdar’s Statement:-
“I am a law-abiding citizen and will fully cooperate with the police. I have faith in the judiciary”. Following the police search, Mazumdar declared his trust in the Indian judicial system.
However, Dilwar’s wife expressed doubts about how the police procedures
Mazumdar’s wife expressed concern over the absence of female police officers during the second raid.
“We have cooperated completely. According to her statement, the police confiscated all essential around 53 documents in total”.
Police also conducted a raid on Dilwar’s Business Establishment at Ganeshguri’s Ganesh Market(Yes Mam- shop no.18).
The situation remains tense, with journalists continuing to demand answers from the officials because they still want to know the reason behind repeated police raids and Mazumdar's re-arrest.
