Prophet Row: Section 144 Imposed is enacted In Assam's Kamrup District

Digital Desk: The authorities in the Kamrup district have issued
prohibition orders under Section 144 CrPC in order to protect "public
peace and tranquillity." This comes in the aftermath of the recent
violence that has erupted across the country in response to former BJP
spokesperson Nupur Sharma's disparaging remarks about the Prophet Mohammad. The
Kamrup district is the fourth district in the state to implement preventive
measures, having been preceded by all three Barak Valley districts.

gatherings under Section 144 of the CrPC, which will apply to any public area
where processions are attempted. This decision was also made so that
sloganeering would be avoided at all costs, and so that the public would not be
    outraged or communal tensions generated.

prohibited in public places and vehicles, according to the order, which also
prohibits the use of loudspeakers with immediate effect.

    In
his ruling, Siddhartha Goswami claimed that "certain unspecified persons,
groups of persons, organizations/associations may cause a breach of public
peace and quiet and disrupt normal public life and general administration at
any unspecified location within the district of Kamrup."

    Meanwhile,
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday that the
administration is closely monitoring the state's law and order situation.
