    Public holiday declared in Assam on June 8 in wake of the KAAC Elections
    Elections in the districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong will be held in 26 council constituencies. 

    Digital Desk: The Assam government has declared a public holiday on June 8 in the Karbi Anglong and Koklabari regions of the Bodoland Territorial Council in anticipation of the approaching Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) elections (BTC). 

    On Tuesday, the state government issued a notification stating,'' The Governor of Assam is pleased to declare June 8, 2022, as a Public Holiday under Section 25 of N.1. Act. 1001 (XXTV of 1601) read with the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs Notification No.20/25/Pub-I dated @" June 1057 within the jurisdiction of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and areas Calling under No.22 Koklabari BTC Constituency under Bodoland Territorial Council (OTC) on account of Karbi Angleng Autonomous Council Election, 2022 and Bye Election of No.22 Kaklabari (ST) BTC Constituency under BTC notified by Assam State Election Commission vide No.SEC.42/20223 and No. SEC.12/2021/77 dated 12/052022.''

    "On that day, all Government/Non-Government Offices, Educational Institutions, and Business Establishments, including Banks, Tea Gardens, and Industries, etc. falling within the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and No.22 Koklabari (ST) TC Constructency under the Bodoland Territorial Council will be closed," it added. 

    In the districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong, elections will be held in 26 council constituencies. The results of the elections are expected to be released on June 12.

    There will be 5 voters from the third gender among the 7,03,298 registered voters, with 3,55,503 men and 3,47,790 females voting in the forthcoming election.
