Digital Desk: The Raijor Dal and the Aam Aadmi Party have once again raised concerns regarding the alleged disappearance of a VVPAT machine from the office of the District Commissioner of Udalguri. Both parties are urging swift disciplinary measures against the district commissioner, who serves as the retaining officer.
In response to leaked information regarding the absence of the VVPAT, the Raijor Dal in Udalguri and the Aam Aadmi Party in Mangaldoi held simultaneous press conferences on March 26, demanding an immediate inquiry into the matter.
Following their demands, a preliminary investigation was conducted by Joint Chief Electoral Officer Emily Baruah, as directed by the state chief electoral officer.
According to reports, subsequent findings from the investigation confirmed the disappearance of the VVPAT machine, identified by its serial number, EVTEB 96784. Both the Raijor Dal and the Aam Aadmi Party have voiced concerns over the implications of such an incident on the integrity of the electoral process, highlighting the threat it poses to democracy even before the elections commence.
They have urged other political parties to take a stand and ensure accountability to uphold the democratic principles of fairness and transparency.
