    Ratan Tata Electronic City: Jagiroad Semiconductor Project To Be Named After Late Industrialist
    The decision was made to honour the contribution of the late Ratan Tata towards Assam in various sectors.

    Digital Desk: The upcoming semiconductor plant in Jagiroad, Morigaon will be named after the former chairperson of the Tata Group and Tata Sons, industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata. Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma annunced the decision on Tuesday.

    The decision was made to honour the contribution of the late Ratan Tata towards Assam in various sectors. 

    CM Sarma said that the state cabinet decided to name the entire area covering the semiconductor plant, and electronic park, and proposed the Electronic City township as Ratan Tata Electronic City. He added that it was Ratan Tata's effort that the state has been able to draw interest and response from other top industrialists towards investments in Assam.

    The late industrialist was conferred with Assam Baibhav, the state's highest civilian award in 2022 for his exceptional contribution towards promoting cancer care in Assam. Tata Group has a long association with Assam, including investments in tea and hospitality industry, green energy, etc.

    During his recent visit to Assam to attend the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, Tata Son's Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran confirmed the investment of Rs 27,000 crore in the green economy.  

    The upcoming semiconductor project is India's first indigenous and greenfield semiconductor assembly and test facility factory in Jagiroad, Morigaon.
