He was a national award-winning music maestro, poet, and filmmaker who was instrumental in bringing Assamese culture to the global stage. On November 5, 2011, aged 85, Hazarika died of age-related causes; today is the 13th anniversary of his death.
Among the songs that make up Hazarika's legacy are relevant to almost every Assamese, for example "Bistirno Parore" which embraces the idea of love and humanity. He was also renowned for many Assamese films he directed and won multiple honors, including Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award.
