    Digital Desk: Professor Umakanta Deva Sharma Shastri, a renowned Sanskrit scholar, died on Sunday at 12:40 a.m. at his home in Jalukbari, Guwahati. He was 83 at the time of his death.


    Umakanta Deva Sharma is credited with popularising Sanskrit and spirituality among the general public.


    Prof. Sharma, Tarka Vyakarana Tirtha, and Vidya Ratna are well-known public speakers who are also famed for his mastery of many epics and for being expert expositors of the Vedas and Puranas.


    Prof. Sharma was a national and globally renowned Sanskrit professor who also wrote several books. The professor is known for writing several well-known books, including "Guru Geeta", "Prasasti Manjari", "Sanataniya Chintan", "Bharatiya Chinatanam", "Nyaya Parichaya," etc.


    One of the most well-known works he edited was "Bharatar Natya Shastra."  Apart from this, he also wrote over 150 popular articles on Sanskrit, Vedic literature, Nyaya Philosophy in different newspapers, magazines, and journals of both national and international repute over the years.


    Prof. Sharma was a well-known and well-liked figure on television who popularized Sanskrit and spirituality among the wider population through his straightforward, science-based explanations.
