Digital Desk: After heavy rains, a section of the key road connecting Assam's Margherita town with Arunachal Pradesh's Changlang town caved in on Tuesday. After the road washed away, vehicles were left stranded on both ends.

Earlier this morning, a section of road near the Rangfrah Shiv Mandir in Arunachal Pradesh formed cracks. But, before the Changlang district administration could find a solution, the delicate part was swept away by afternoon, leaving a big gap in the road. 

Sunny K Singh, the Changlang deputy commissioner, immediately issued a prohibitory order restricting vehicle movement till the road is fully repaired. He also told the executive engineer of the Changlang division of the Public Works Department (PWD) to "make all conceivable efforts to restore the road as soon as possible."

While the district administration attributed the landslide to heavy rain and a pre-existing sinking zone, other residents blamed mining-related deforestation as one of the principal causes of the devastation.
