The next round of border talks between Assam and Meghalaya will be held soon: Conrad Sangma

    Digital Desk: Conrad
Sangma, the chief minister of Meghalaya, has stated that the next round of
talks with Assam will take place soon. This meeting will attempt to resolve
border issues between the two states. The two states will host the second round
of talks to resolve border disputes in six areas where the conflict exists. "We
will try to meet the regional committees and chief ministers together in the
coming weeks to move the talks forward," Conrad Sangma informed the press.

    The six areas of
conflict that will be discussed in this phase are spread across Meghalaya's
districts of West Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, and West Jaintia Hills. The Meghalaya
government has previously stated that their top priority in this phase of the
talks is to respect local views while resolving border disputes with Assam.
Meghalaya and Assam share an interstate border of 885 kilometers.

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, also urged the state governments of
India's Northeastern states to resolve their internal border issues through
interaction. He also urged the leaders to act as soon as possible so that the
region can develop a stable economic situation and thus make rapid progress
toward greater development. He stated this during his recent visit to Guwahati
for the North East Council meeting.
