Kolia Bhomora Bridge will be closed to vehicular movement, beginning November 1 for
repairs. Vehicular traffic on the Kolia Bhomora Bridge, which is currently
being repaired, will be diverted to the newly constructed second bridge. The
decision was made prior to the completion of the new bridge. Since its
completion in 1987, the Kolia Bhomora Bridge, which connects Kaliabor and
Tezpur in Nagaon and Sonitpur districts, has been seeing constant traffic.
Parts of the bridge's
rails are currently damaged as a result of continuous use. Specified road
repairs will also be made, according to the administration. The bridge will be
closed for the entire month of November beginning November 1.
Deputy
Commissioner Dev Kumar Mishra informed this at a press conference at the
Sonitpur district collector's office meeting space. This statement was made in
a press release at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur
district on Friday by Vivek Joshi, Registrar General and Census Commissioner of
India, and Dev Kumar Mishra, Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur district.
On September 23, Union
Law Minister Kiren Rijiju visited the second bridge in Kolia Bhomora,
describing it as an important bridge in Assam for facilitating travel from the
north bank of the Brahmaputra to the south bank. It is also a strategic bridge,
enhancing the Force's ability to move to the international border with China in
Arunachal. At a cost of Rs 588.95 crore, the bridge was built to improve
connectivity to the north bank.
In the meantime, the minister stated that a
four-lane bridge would be built across the Jia Bharali River.
