Guwahati: Today is Global Hand Washing Day which is an annual day dedicated to advocate hand washing in children with soap as an easy, effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives. Along with rest of the world, this day is celebrated in Assam too by the Assam Branch Indian Tea Association (ABITA) in support of UNICEF.
The first Global Hand Washing Day was held in 15th October, 2008 when millions of children around the world washed their hands with soap in more than 70 countries. The theme for this year is “Clean Hands for All”.
The ABITA has made a difference in this Global Hand washing Day by promoting group hand washing unit in schools and angadwadis. Their target groups are ASHA, Angadwadi workers, tea garden managers, social activists, youth groups, students and children and others.
