Digital Desk: In a shocking sequence of events, Dwijpati Medhi, a resident of Barpeta Keotkuchi, found himself at the centre of turmoil. First, his shop was engulfed in flames due to a short circuit, prompting him to rush to the Barpeta Sadar police station to lodge an FIR.
However, as he sought justice for the fire incident, another blow struck when his e-rickshaw disappeared from right outside the Barpeta police station. The audacity of the theft, occurring while Medhi was inside the police station reporting the fire incident, has left the community in Barpeta reeling with insecurity.
Adding to the distress, reports of thefts have surfaced from various parts of Assam, including Mangaldoi. A group of female thieves targeted a clothing store in Mangaldoi Market, resulting in the capture of one woman by an angry crowd. The entire episode was captured on camera, revealing the theft that occurred within the heart of Mangaldoi town. Initially posing as customers, three women entered the shop intending to steal.
However, their suspicious behaviour caught the attention of the shop owner, who reviewed the CCTV footage and uncovered their nefarious activities. Taking matters into his own hands, the shopkeeper apprehended one of the female thieves, prompting a swift response from the police.
The captured woman was promptly taken into custody for further investigation, as law enforcement officials delved into the details of the crime.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the vigilance required in urban markets to combat such criminal activities.
