Digital Desk: Two more dead bodies of the trapped miners in Umrangso were recovered in the morning of Saturday. The bodies were found when the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) went to see the water level of the mine. Ongoing efforts are to rescue the other trapped workers from the flooded rat-hole coal mine in Umrangso, Dima Hasao district of Assam. One dead body was identified as Lijan Magar, a resident of Umrangso. At the same time, the other worker's identity is still not confirmed as his body was recovered just a few minutes before.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed through his X account, "Rescue efforts continue in Umrangso with unwavering resolve. Tragically, another body was recovered this morning, with the identity yet to be confirmed. Our hearts go out to the grieving as we hold onto hope and
strength during this difficult time."
The first dead body of a worker was recovered on Wednesday by the Indian Navy and other agencies working tirelessly at the mine. The worker was identified as Ganga Bahadur Shrestha, a Nepal National.
According to sources, the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Assam Rifles, NDRF, SDRF, and other agencies are giving their best efforts to rescue the other trapped miners. The workers were trapped in a coal mine at 3 Kilo, Umrangso after water gushed in from a nearby mine on January 6.
A fully equipped team specialized in deep diving and underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles is working tirelessly for the search and rescue operation of the other trapped workers.
