Digital Desk: In a significant development within the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), prominent party leader Romen Borthakur has tendered his resignation. He was reportedly citing differences with senior party officials. Borthakur's departure comes amidst growing tensions within the party and follows speculation regarding his dissatisfaction with the leadership's approach.

“I have resigned from all post of party of party & membership with immediate effect,” he says on Facebook.

The decision to resign was reportedly driven by a show cause notice sent to Borthakur by the APCC General Secretary, Bipul Gogoi, accusing him of repeatedly violating party discipline and engaging in activities harmful to the party's interests. The notice alleged that Borthakur had been involved in anti-party activities and spreading false information, which had raised concerns among party workers.

    allegations.”

Romen Borthakur and MLA Rashid Mondal were accused by the Congress party of indulging in anti-party activities. The notices sought Borthakur to answer within 3 days and Rashid Mandal within 2 days.

The announcement of Borthakur's departure coincides with increased speculation that he may run for the Lok Sabha seat in Guwahati in the 2019 elections. As per sources, he had also said that he would be quite interested in running from the Darrang-Udalguri area.
