Digital Desk: In a shocking incident, a newly-married woman from Uttar Pradesh was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Tarun Nagar in Guwahati, Assam.
The deceased was identified as Sangeeta Nishad (25) of Uttar Pradesh.
Sangeeta allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself on June 2. Her family immediately rushed to Guwahati from Uttar Pradesh after they got to know about her sudden demise.
Sangeeta got married to Rajesh Kewat, a resident of Uttar Pradesh and an employee of Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) on March 7, 2025.
The deceased woman's family now alleged that Sangeeta had been subjected to mental harassment by the Kewat family for Rs 20 lakh dowry.
The Kewat family had been allegedly pressurising Sangeeta to leave Rajesh Kewat if she could not pay Rs 20 lakh, her family said.
As Rajesh works in Guwahati, so his family has also been residing with him in the city. Sangeeta has been also living with the family since her marriage.
Sangeeta's family has now demanded a thorough investigation into the matter and filed an FIR against the Kewat family at the Bhangagarh police station.
Police investigations are underway regarding the incident.
