Asian Games 2023: 54 athletes from Northeast gears up for the games, 7 from Assam

Digital Desk: The northeastern region of India is sending an impressive contingent of 54 athletes to represent the country on the international stage at the Asian Games. Seven talented athletes from Assam are among those who are set to make their mark in various sporting disciplines.

Lovlina Borgohain and Shiva Thapa, two well-known boxers from Assam, have been selected to represent India at the Asian Games. Amlan Borgohain, who will compete in the field of athletics, will also be joining them. Another athlete from Assam who will proudly wear the Indian jersey is Ashmita Chaliha, a rising star in the badminton world. For cricket enthusiasts, the Asian Games will provide an opportunity to witness the talent of Uma Chetry in action. In Sepak Takraw, A. Priya Devi's skills will be put to the test against the best in Asia. Shivangi Sharma, an Indian swimmer, will make a stir when she dives into the pool.

These seven athletes from Assam will compete at the Hangzhou Asian Games among a larger group of 54 athletes from Northeast India.

 

In addition to Assam, Manipur has the most athletes, with 38 competing in judo, weightlifting, hockey, and football among other sports.

Additionally, athletes from Mizoram, Nagaland, and Meghalaya are ready to shine in events like hockey, football, and sepak takraw. Three athletes from Arunachal Pradesh are set to compete in Wushu.
