Digital Desk: The Sports Ministry has approved an overseas training camp in the United States for
Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) athletes Mirabai Chanu and Bindyarani Devi as they prepare for the Asian Games.
Olympic medalist Mirabai and Commonwealth Games medalist Bindyarani will be training at St. Louis' SQUAT University under Dr. Aron Horschig in preparation for the forthcoming Asian Games.
The duo will be accompanied by Indian head coach Vijay Sharma and team physiotherapist Tesneem Zayyad during their 65-day abroad training camp.
The government will bear the expenses of plane travel, boarding and accommodation, medical insurance, local transportation, gym fees and doctor's consultation fees, and other things.
It is important to mention that Mirabai Chanu, along with other notable Manipur sporting figures, had previously appealed to the Home Minister for peace to be restored in the northeastern state. An ethnic clash involving the Meitei people has impacted the locale, resulting in several deaths. Mirabai Chanu's involvement in the training camp, despite these obstacles, clarifies her persistence and passion for the sport.
