Digital Desk: Jay Shah, Honorary Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), was named 'Sports Business Leader of the Year' at the 2023 Sports Business Awards.
The BCCI took to the social media platform 'X' to congratulate Shah on his honour, stating he had made an everlasting impression on the cricketing world.
Jay Shah's career in cricket administration began with his position as president of the Gujarat Cricket Association. Following his time with the GCA, Shah was appointed Honorary Secretary of the BCCI at the age of 31.
He was involved in the construction of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which is currently one of the world's largest cricket stadiums. Under his leadership, the BCCI has solidified its status as the richest cricket board in the world.
Shah's vision included the promotion of women's cricket, as seen by the establishment of the Women's Premier League (WPL) and the achievement of wage parity for female cricketers. This effort not only raised the profile of women's cricket in India but also set a precedent for other sports organisations in the nation.
Shah was also elected President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and oversaw the organisation of the 2023 Asia Cup, which India won. He then organised the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, which drew a record crowd of 1.25 million people.
