Digital Desk: In a commanding performance, India defeated Bangladesh by 10 wickets in their Women's Asia Cup 2024 semifinal match in Dambulla on Friday, securing their place in the final. Chasing a modest target of 81 runs, India achieved the goal with ease, reaching 83 without losing a wicket in just 11 overs.
Smriti Mandhana was the standout performer, scoring an unbeaten 55, while Shafali Verma contributed a solid 26 runs. The Indian bowlers had earlier restricted Bangladesh to 80 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their 20 overs. Renuka Singh and Radha Yadav were instrumental in this effort, each claiming three wickets. Bangladesh had won the toss and opted to bat first but struggled against the disciplined Indian attack.
Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur praised her team’s performance after the match, saying, "Our bowlers did a great job. Whatever we spoke about in the team meeting, they did the same. Really proud of the way they are bowling. A lot of pressure on us because we have been dominating Asian cricket. For us, things are simple. We want to go out there and express."
Kaur also highlighted the importance of consistency and the positive approach of her team, stating, "We prepare ourselves hard in the nets. Every day, they are coming up with positive approaches and nice ideas. They are giving me confidence and are always there for the team."
India will face the winner of the Sri Lanka vs. Pakistan match in the final on Sunday, July 28. The team will closely monitor the ongoing match to strategize their final showdown.
