Cricket expected to return besides flag football, baseball, and softball to the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028...
Digital Desk: The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that the organisers of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics had agreed to put forward cricket for participation in the Games. Cricket is expected to return to the Olympics in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic programme, alongside flag football.
Cricket was included in the list of sports to be introduced in LA after a two-year process in which the ICC worked closely with LA28; the list will now be submitted to the IOC for approval.
"We are thrilled that LA28 have recommended cricket for inclusion in the Olympics," ICC Chairman Greg Barclay remarked.
Even if this isn't the final decision, it's a big step towards cricket's return to the Olympics after more than a century.
It should be mentioned that, when England and France battled for the gold medal in Paris in 1900, cricket was only ever played at the Olympics.
However, a men's and women's tournament at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles could appeal to the sizable Asian subcontinent commercial market.
The International Olympic Committee received the Los Angeles organising committee's plan on Monday, according to two people who are acquainted with it, setting it up for a vote at the IOC's meeting in Mumbai, India, later this month. The LA committee intended to disseminate the information later on Monday, so the people did not want to be identified.
