Fans disappointed, Vents anger over Rohit Sharma's Removal As Mumbai Indians Captain

Digital Desk: Fans expressed their dismay on social media after the Mumbai Indians (MI) named Hardik Pandya as the franchise's new captain, succeeding Rohit Sharma.

Rohit, who joined MI before the 2011 IPL season, was elected captain of the franchise in 2013 and guided them to five IPL titles in the previous decade. Along with Chennai Super Kings' MS Dhoni, he is the most successful captain.

Meanwhile, Hardik departed MI in 2022 to join Gujarat Titans, where he led them to the title in their inaugural season. Last year, he led them to the final, where they were defeated by CSK at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Some fans, however, felt offended by Rohit's ouster as captain and vented their rage on social media.

Mumbai Indians, along with Chennai Super Kings, are the most successful IPL franchises, having won five titles each.

Rohit, who recently led India to the ODI World Cup final, had headed the franchise since 2013 when they won their first of five IPL titles.

The other titles won by Rohit were in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. Mumbai Indians advanced to the IPL 2023 play-offs.

Meanwhile, Hardik has large shoes to fill as MI's new captain, since Rohit has led the team to five IPL titles.

Pandya scored 833 runs for GT in 31 matches from 2022 to 23 at an average of 37.86 and a strike rate of over 133. He also took 11 wickets for the squad, with a high of 3/17.

From 2015 to 2021, Hardik played 92 matches for MI, scoring 1,476 runs at an average of 27.33 and a strike rate of over 153, with four half-centuries and a best score of 91. He also got 42 team wickets, with the best bowling statistics of 3/20.

Hardik has five IPL titles, four with MI (2015, 2017, 2019, 2020) and one with GT (2022).
