Digital Desk: Good news for cricket enthusiasts in Assam as talks are underway to host a one-day international match at the ACA Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
Reportedly, talks are underway to allocate one of the India-Sri Lanka series' one-day international (ODI) matches to the Guwahati stadium.
In January of next year, the Sri Lankan cricket team is scheduled to tour India. In this context, a delegation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will visit Guwahati to inspect the stadium.
The BCCI officials are expected to come on January 1 for the inspection, following which it will be evaluated whether the Barsapara Stadium is suitable for hosting an ODI match.
Meanwhile, the ground staff at Barsapara Stadium has begun preparing the stadium for the match.
It should be noted that the game between the two Asian powerhouses is expected to be played in Guwahati on January 12.
The ACA Barsapara Cricket Stadium last hosted South Africa in a T20 International, the second of a three-match bilateral series in October of this year.
It was the first game following the debacle in January 2020 when, after rain ruined the first T20 match against Sri Lanka, ground staff were spotted trying various tactics to dry the pitch, resulting in a comedy of errors that drew harsh criticism.
The October 2022 match against South Africa was not without controversy, with play being interrupted twice, once due to defective floodlights and secondly due to a snake entering the field of play.
