Digital Desk: Shreyas Iyer achieved a great milestone in an incredible performance of batting power on Thursday, November 2, during the ICC World Cup 2023 match between India and Sri Lanka at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. The right-handed Indian hitter became the third fastest Indian to amass 2000 runs in ODIs, doing so in only 49 innings.
Earlier in the tournament, Shubman Gill established himself as the world's fastest batter to achieve the 2000-run mark. He reached this milestone during a match against New Zealand at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.
Shreyas Iyer's successes do not end at the national level. He also holds the honour of being the world's 12th fastest hitter to score 2000 ODI runs.
This places Iyer in the company of other great international cricketers like as Gordon Greenidge of the West Indies, Jonny Bairstow of England, Kyle Coetzer of Scotland, and Fakhar Zaman of Pakistan.
Iyer's innings today were spectacular, ending with a total of 82 runs off 56 balls, including three fours and six booming sixes.
Iyer's contribution to India's batting prowess has been critical, particularly since the 2019 World Cup, when he emerged as a serious contender to bat at No. 4. After recuperating from a back injury, he made a notable recovery during the Asia Cup, and he has routinely given fantastic performances since then.
Prior to the World Cup, he even scored a century against Australia in a three-match bilateral series, demonstrating his remarkable batting form.
