Digital Desk: Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who led the team in the 2nd and 3rd ODI matches against the West Indies, expressed his discontent with the lack of essential amenities during their stay in Tarouba. Pandya called on Cricket West Indies (CWI) to take notice of these issues and address them for future series.
Taking charge of the team in the absence of captain Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya led India to a commanding victory in the crucial deciding ODI, securing a 2-1 win in the three-match ODI series. The highlight of the match was Pandya's spectacular unbeaten knock of 70 runs off 52 balls.
Reflecting on the experience at the Brian Lara Stadium, Pandya also praised the ground as one of the nicest they had played on. However, he emphasized the need for improvements when the team next visits the West Indies. He addressed various concerns, ranging from travel arrangements to overall management during their tour.
"This was one of the nicest grounds we have played on. Things can be better when we come to the West Indies next time. From traveling to managing a lot of things. Last year also, some hiccups happened. I think it’s time for West Indies Cricket to take note of it and make sure that when a team travels… We don’t ask for luxury but we need some basic necessities taken care of. Other than that, I really enjoyed coming here and playing some good cricket," said Hardik Pandya.
The Indian team had previously voiced their dissatisfaction to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding a delayed late-night flight from Trinidad to Barbados before the final ODI. The inconvenient travel arrangements left the players sleep-deprived and affected their performance in the series opener.
As for the match, India put up an impressive batting display after being asked to bat first by West Indies captain Shai Hope. Shubman Gill's 85 off 92 balls and Ishan Kishan's quick-fire 77 off 64 balls provided a strong foundation for India's innings. Sanju Samson's explosive 51 off 41 deliveries further fueled India's score. Hardik Pandya's late flourish propelled the team to a formidable total.
In response, West Indies struggled to build momentum during the chase, losing crucial wickets early on. Mukesh Kumar's three-wicket haul caused a collapse in the powerplay, and the home side could only manage to score 151 in 35.3 overs.
The Indian team's performance in the series showcased their dominance, but the issues raised by Hardik Pandya highlight the importance of providing essential amenities and better management during international tours. Cricket West Indies will undoubtedly take note of these concerns to ensure a more comfortable and smooth experience for visiting teams in the future.
