Digital Desk: As cricket enthusiasts around the world eagerly await the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan match at the ICC World Cup 2023, ticket prices have surged to unprecedented heights, leaving fans scrambling to secure their seats at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 8.
On the Viagogo app, ticket prices for this marquee encounter range from a jaw-dropping ₹4.5 lakh for standard seats to an astonishing ₹57 lakh for exclusive seats in Bay 2, strategically positioned in the long-on and long-off areas. Even the starting price for a single ticket stands at ₹57,198, making this cricket spectacle an expensive affair.
What's more, for fans who missed out on booking their tickets early, the news is disheartening, as all tickets for the India vs Pakistan clash have already sold out on BookMyShow, the official ticketing partner for the ODI World Cup.
The soaring ticket prices are not limited to just the India vs Pakistan match. The encounter between India and England, scheduled for October 29 in Lucknow, is also witnessing exorbitant prices. A seat on the East Upper Block 4 in Row F comes with a staggering price tag of ₹2.85 lakh. Even the opening match featuring India against Australia in Chennai has set ticket prices at ₹2,09,551 lakh for general admission in Row J.
The escalating cost of tickets has led to a wave of discontent among fans on social media platforms. Many cricket enthusiasts have expressed their frustration, claiming that such exorbitant prices are pricing out genuine fans and making it difficult for ordinary cricket lovers to witness these high-profile clashes live.
The situation has placed additional pressure on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which has already faced criticism for altering match dates due to various reasons, including Navratri. While the BCCI aims to cater to the fans' demands for festive cricket, the high ticket prices have become a cause for concern among supporters who feel that the sport should remain accessible to all.
The India vs Pakistan match has always been a highlight of any cricket tournament, transcending the sport itself and becoming a cultural phenomenon. However, with ticket prices reaching astronomical levels, there is growing concern that this iconic clash may lose some of its inclusive charm.
As cricket fans continue to hope for a resolution to the ticket price issue, all eyes remain on the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023, where the battle between India and Pakistan, both on and off the field, promises to be nothing short of epic.
