Mumbai Indians were found to have maintained a slow over-rate during their game vs Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium
Digital Desk: Following the Mumbai Indians' third win of the current IPL 2024 season, Hardik Pandya was fined Rs 12 lakhs for violating the IPL code of conduct concerning minimum over-rate breaches.
Mumbai Indians were found to have maintained a slow over-rate during their game versus Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh. As a result, the captain of the team was penalized. This is the first time this season that Hardik has been punished for a slow over-rate infraction.
"As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined Rs 12 lakhs," according to the BCCI's press statement.
Hardik doesn't seem to mind the penalty, though, as his team defeated Punjab Kings on Thursday, April 18, after a fierce battle. Hardik didn't contribute much with the bat or the ball, but in the end, Mumbai benefited greatly from his leadership as captain and his tactical bowling changes.
The captain of the Mumbai Indians acknowledged that the game was a true test for his squad and gave Punjab Kings' Ashutosh Sharma credit for almost winning it.
"Fantastic game. Everyone was put to the test on their nerves. We discussed that in this game, the characters will be verified. Naturally, though, you believe that you are winning, and you are aware that the Indian Premier League frequently demonstrates how and when opponents may rally." Hardik stated at the presentation held following the game.
"Ashutosh played in an unbelievable way, striking the ball off the middle. Fantastic for his prospects. During the timeout, we did talk about how we will continue to fight regardless of how we look. Make sure the soft balls are not balled up. Although our batsmen performed well, we were soft in several overs," he continued.
