MI has been struggling with injuries to pacers Jhye Richardson and Jasprit Bumrah, who were ruled out of the season before the tournament began.
Digital Desk: The Mumbai Indians have taken a strategic step to solve their bowling issues by signing England pacer Chris Jordan as a replacement player for the remaining 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
According to a report from EspnCricinfo, Jordan, who was a crucial member of England's 2022 T20 World Cup squad, has signed up with the Mumbai Indians (MI) for the remainder of the season. Although it is not yet known who Jordan has replaced, it is most likely an overseas player.
The pacers Jhye Richardson and Jasprit Bumrah, who was already ruled out of the season before the tournament started, have been suffering MI. Jofra Archer, a prominent English fast bowler, has only participated in two of the tournament's seven games so far, and it has come to light that he was compelled to travel to Belgium during the tournament for an operation on his problematic elbow. Jordan's entry is anticipated to bring much-needed relief to the team's bowling unit, which has put up 96 and 77 runs in its last two games against Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), respectively.
Jordan had been released by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after the 2022 season and was not purchased at the 2023 auction for a base price of Rs. 2 crore. Earlier in his career, he also played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Punjab Kings (PBKS). For 28 matches in the IPL, he has claimed 27 wickets at an economy rate of 9.32.
MI's season got off to a bad start with two straight defeats against RCB and CSK. However, they quickly turned things around by defeating SRH, KKR, and DC in a row. Unfortunately, they haven't been in great shape lately, losing two straight games to PBKS and GT.
